We are herb enthusiasts on a mission to make a grinder that you’ll never have to replace

We've owned dozens of grinders of all materials and price points and they all eventually failed. Our last grinder was one of the best-selling grinders on the market, and even that one eventually locked up from the worn threads. We were tired of spending all that money for something that only lasts a few months to a couple of years at best.

That's why we started Specular. To make beautiful high performance tools that last.

No More Grinder Slop

Stainless steel grinders already existed, but the best ones cost $150-$200. Most people were stuck choosing between cheap-o grinders that break or overpriced luxury ones. So we decided to create something different: a streamlined stainless steel grinder that people can afford.

To do it right, we partnered with two engineers with U.S. aerospace backgrounds. Together we approached the grinder the same way precision tools are designed — focusing on durability, performance, and elegant mechanical design.

Three prototypes later

After three prototype versions, OG1 finally came together. A 46-tooth cutting arrangement produces a consistent, fluffy grind. A weighted stainless steel top called Momentum Lid™ — nearly 10× heavier than typical aluminum lids — creates natural downward momentum, making grinding smoother and easier on your hands. A beautiful three-piece enclosure secured together with powerful neodymium magnets instead of screw threads that can strip, get stuck or misaligned.

Lifetime Quality

When it came to the materials, we went straight to the top shelf. The entire grinder is machined from solid 304 food-grade stainless steel, made to resist wear, corrosion, and rust. Unlike standard 303 stainless steel, 304 is pure and free of sulfur additives that weaken the metal's surface and structural integrity. This is what causes cheaper grinders and even standard stainless steel grinders to gum up, tarnish, or rust over time.

Spec-tac-ular Results

The result of our work is a grinder that feels less like an accessory and more like a precision instrument. One of the only grinders on the market made from 304 food grade stainless steel. Our flagship grinder, the Specular OG1.
