Why 304 Stainless Steel Matters
Why 304 matters
OG1 is machined from true 304 stainless steel chosen for durability, corrosion resistance, and long term stability. No coatings. No paint. No shortcuts.
Not all stainless is equal
Many grinders use 303 stainless because it machines faster and costs less. We chose 304 even though it takes longer and wears equipment more. Quality is the point.
New bar stock only
We machine OG1 from new 304 stainless steel bar stock for consistency and purity. We do not use mixed scrap or recycled blends.
Tested and verified
OG1 has been independently analyzed using XRF testing to verify stainless steel composition and confirm 304 grade specifications.
Common grinder materials compared
304 stainless steel
Used by Specular OG1. Built for long term durability and cleanliness. No coatings, no flaking, no shortcuts. Takes longer and costs more to machine. Chosen on purpose.
303 stainless steel
Easier and cheaper to machine than 304. Good short term performance with lower corrosion resistance over time.
Aluminum
Often marketed as aircraft grade. Lightweight and affordable, but can wear down, dull, or chip with repeated use.
Plastic
Low durability. Teeth and surfaces wear quickly. Disposable by design.
Ceramic coated metal
Smooth initially. Long term durability depends on coating integrity.
Specular OG1 uses true 304 stainless steel because material integrity matters more than manufacturing convenience.
