Description

Most grinders are built to be replaced. The teeth dull, the threads bind or cross, and the finish eventually ends up somewhere it shouldn't. The OG1 is machined from a solid block of 304 stainless steel, so the way it grinds on day one is the way it grinds years later.

It's a three-piece body held together by magnets. No threads to line up, cross or wear out, so it opens and closes with one hand. At 1.3 lb, the weighted Momentum Lid™ carries the rotation for you: less effort, fewer snags, an even medium-coarse grind from 46 stay-sharp blades.

We didn't take the mill's word for the material either. The steel is identified as SS-304 by independent XRF testing, and you can read the full report.

At 1.3 pounds, the Specular OG1 is among the heaviest grinders in its size class. One of OG1's defining features is called Momentum Lid™, a uniquely designed top chamber that uses its added weight to generate natural downward pressure and rotational momentum while grinding. Why 304 Stainless Steel?

Better Corrosion Resistance Than 303

Many stainless steel grinders use 303 stainless, which includes sulfur additives to make machining faster. 304 doesn't rely on that sulfur, so it holds up better against corrosion. It's slower and costlier to machine, but durability matters more to us than manufacturing speed.

Independent XRF Testing

Every component of the OG1 was identified as SS-304 by independent XRF (X-ray fluorescence) testing, using an analyzer made by Thermo Scientific.

Aluminum and zinc alloy grinders have several problems during long term use: Their softer blades dull quickly and they gum up over time. These inexpensive grinders can also wear at the surface, and particles can end up in what you're grinding.

No. In practice, the added weight makes grinding feel easier and more controlled. Once rotation begins, momentum helps the pieces move smoothly so you do not need to squeeze harder or fight resistance from dense ingredients.

No. The OG1 is machined from a solid block of corrosion-resistant stainless steel that maintains its feel and appearance with regular use. Cheaper grinders rely on paints and coatings to protect their inferior materials. Over time, these coatings can wear down or flake, and particles can end up in what you're grinding.

OG1 uses high powered rare earth magnets to secure its 3-piece enclosure together without any threads or screws. Threads require you to carefully align the pieces before closing the grinder. They can wear out or get stuck after a few uses, making it difficult to open and close the grinder.
